Context & Cookies: A New PBF Tradition!

As our members and regular attenders are aware, we are approaching the end of our study of 2 Thessalonians.  It has been a wonderful journey through Paul’s two letters to the church at Thessalonica, both of which have been profoundly applicable to our modern lives.  Lord willing, we have three more messages, and then we’ll begin a new series.

So what will the next book be?  Genesis?  Revelation?  Isaiah?  Something else?

Our custom has always been to announce the new book on the morning of the first sermon. Secrecy builds anticipation.  At the same time, we recognize the value of allowing people to know ahead of time so that they can familiarize themselves with the text.  After all, as we have said so many times, context is crucial to understanding any given passage.  And yet, time constraints prevent us from ever reading an entire book in one sitting.

So, the elders have decided to begin a new tradition at PBF.  To introduce the next book for a coming sermon series, we will not wait until the morning of the first sermon.  Rather, we will gather together on an evening one or two weeks prior to that first sermon to announce the book and read it in its entirety together while sharing our favorite cookies.  This event has been dubbed “Context & Cookies.”  Lord willing, we will do this every time we introduce a new book.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!

7:00 pm at PBF

  1. Bring your Bible
  2. Bring your family and friends
  3. Bring a batch of your favorite cookies to share
  4. Don’t ask how long it’s going to last to try to narrow down which book we’re reading!

If it’s a short book, we’ll read it and enjoy more fellowship afterwards.  If it’s a long book, we’ll read it and call it a night.  Either way, you won’t want to miss the inaugural Context & Cookies.  When your children’s children have children, you’ll be able to say, “I was there at the beginning!”
