If you've been studying 1 Peter with us you are probably aware that the recipients of the letter are facing hostility and persecution. Living in North America we can forget that Christianity is still under attack and believers worldwide are facing persecution that sometimes costs them their lives.
The Voice of the Martyrs is an organization that is keenly aware of current day persecution. Part of their ministry exists to remind the church that brothers and sisters in Christ are suffering for their faith. For example, just this month they reported that Moroccan military authorities raided a Christian meeting and arrested 18 people. The authorities also confiscated Bibles and personal belongings.
