Does Adultery End the Marriage Covenant?

During the last couple of sermons, we looked at the text of Matthew 19:3-9 regarding divorce and also spent some time answering some of the common questions that arise when discussing this issue. There was one question that we did not have time to tackle, yet it is one that is common enough that I’d like to take some time to deal with it here. As you know, the Lord teaches in Matthew 19:9 that cases of sexual immorality represent an exception to the rule that to divorce and remarry another constitutes adultery. This leads some people to assume that infidelity effectively ends the marriage covenant and that must be why these cases represent an exception to the rule. Is that the case? Does infidelity break the marriage covenant in such a way as to end it? This is an important question. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 I can’t say for certain that this is the first Bible verse I ever memorized. I can say that is the one I know the best. Growing up in Elmcrest Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas, it seemed that we recited it every week in Sunday School. We recited it so many times that even though I’ve been using a different translation of the Bible for the last 20 years, John 3:16 is the only verse in the Bible that I continue to recite in the King James Version. The wide knowledge of this verse is undoubtedly due not only to the succinct picture of the gospel that it presents, but also to the sentimental value it holds for all of us who see ourselves as the object of that great love. An Important Message About Ohio's "Issue 1"

I never use my "pulpit" for political purposes. This article is no departure from that policy. The article below has nothing to do with politics, but with right and wrong, good and evil, and the image of God displayed in humankind. Ohio is considering as a ballot measure an amendment (known as “ Issue 1 ”) which will allow for the broadest, most unrestricted environment for child endangerment conceivable. I won’t take the time to exposit the whole amendment. Please take the time to read it here .
