Today is Thursday. For many of us, it will be another typical Thursday from start to finish—whatever that may look like. For the more culturally-invested, we might recognize and observe today, October 3rd, as National Caramel Custard Day (no joke). So, why am I writing to you about Thursday, namely this particular Thursday? If you look at a 2019 calendar, you’ll notice exactly 90 days remain. A lot can be accomplished in the span of 90 days. I’d like to put before you one of those things—a spiritual endeavor of great benefit. Dwell, a well-produced and multi-platform Scripture listening app, has formulated a 90-day listening plan covering the entirety of God’s Word. Requiring about one hour per day, you can listen to God’s Word professionally recited by a variety of voices, accompanied by high quality, optional music. The app does entail a $25 annual fee, but I can vouch the money is worth it—especially considering the many other reading plans available.
The psalmist wrote to the Lord: I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you…I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word (Psalm 119:11, 15-16). How might undergoing this endeavor jump-start your love for consistent intake of God’s Word? How might this endeavor create in you a deeper longing for godliness? How might this endeavor spur you to more fruitful labors for the Kingdom? One thing is certain: We have the privilege of storing up God’s Word in our hearts, so let us not neglect to do so. May we be like the psalmist and proclaim: Your testimonies are wonderful (Psalm 119:129a).
