The most important question anyone will ever consider is that of their eternal destiny. We are all conceived estranged from God with hearts that delight to rebel against Him. The only hope to be reconciled to Him is to have our sin and the wrath it deserves removed from us by grace through faith in the saving work of Christ. Only those who repent and trust in Jesus will spend eternity with Him in glory. All others will receive what all deserve—eternity in torment.
After the question of our eternal destiny, perhaps the most common question considered by professing believers is, “I am really saved from the wrath to come?” Most believers doubt their salvation at one time or another. Others experience years of doubt. This doubt tends to sap the joy that should characterize our lives as believers.
How can those who lack assurance pursue it? If others we love lack assurance, how can we help them?
