Advent Family Prayer Guide

Advent is upon us!  It's the time when we focus our minds and thoughts on Christ at Christmas. Historically, it was a time to prepare for the celebration of his birth at Christmas and to anticipate his second coming at the final day.

There is no biblical command to do anything different during the Advent season. However, most of us take in much from the world through the news, entertainment, social media, and our unsaved friends. As a counter-balance, it's helpful to take time out of our holiday season to refocus on who matters most Christ and our family.

Toward that end, we have put together a Family Prayer Guide for the Advent season. We have prepared this Guide to be used with parents and children, but anyone can benefit from it.

Each day of Advent has a passage of Scripture to read—sometimes one verse, other times a paragraph. After reading it, you can pray the prayer as given or use it as a foundation upon which to expand into your own prayer. There is a further passage that informs the prayer if you want to go further into your Bible reading each day.

We hope this guide will help you keep your eyes on Jesus during this Christmas season.
