Can You Give Gospel Care?

People are hurting. People are hurting from family problems, social problems, and often, from health problems. Health problems can bring more than physical pain; emotional and spiritual pain often comes to the surface through physical suffering. Often, God draws us to himself through difficult circumstances. Consider the example of the psalmist in Psalm 119:

Psalm 119:67 - Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.

Psalm 119:71 - It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.

Psalm 119:107 - I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your word!

Often people in the hospital are experiencing affliction and looking for hope. They are looking for answers or some bright spot on the horizon after medical procedures which leave them in pain or a receive diagnosis that isn’t what they were expecting.

We thank God for modern medicine. But science will only bring so much relief. And when it fails to heal our diseases, where will we turn?  We turn to the Lord, but what about those who do not know the Lord?

Instead of Healthcare, they need Gospel CareAnd in the providence of God, we have an opportunity to provide.

How will this work?  One of our members works as a chaplain in a local hospital. And often she encounters people who are thinking of spiritual things and ready for someone to point them to God.  As she has opportunities to talk with people, she may ask, “Would you like someone to read the Bible with you?”  But it's not always possible or appropriate for her to meet regularly with every one.

Thankfully, God has given his church to the world--hundreds of believers who are able to show love and care by simply reading the Bible with people so as to point them to Christ.

This is just another simple, organic part of our outreach plan at Providence Bible Fellowship. It's something just about anyone can participate it. It requires no training or skills; just the willingness to spend time with hurting people and love them enough to pray with them, read with them, and tell them about Jesus.  Thus, we are inviting all our adult members to be willing to reach out to someone in the community as part of this new Gospel Care ministry.

And aid to you, we've recently updated our One-to-One Bible Reading page in our Resource Portal with new tools to help you read with unbelievers. Please see Pastor John if you have any questions. And Sign-up today to be on call to read the Bible with someone at a local hospital who requests it.
